root doesn't close properly and have to "sudo kill -9" python thread to recover

      Here are the steps to reproduce the issue:

      • power up the KCU105 board
      • run the dev gui
      • power down the KCU105
      • close the GUI using the "close window" button on the upper right hand corner of the GUI
      • python thread never closes
